The Project (Description)

What'cha Been Up To?

Woo! Week 6. I can't believe it. I'm back with another update on my capstone project! I've gotten a lot of work done since my last post. I've vectorized my characters and even started on a logo and made several app icon designs. I even interviewed a professional graphic designer from Build-A-Bear Workshop! How cool is that?  I'll be making a separate blog post to talk about it in detail, so stay tuned!

And if you’re new to my blog, welcome! To learn more about this blog, please refer to my very first post, which can be found here: Click me!

In this post, I'll be going over my finalized project statement. Continue reading this post to know more about my Capstone project!

Project Statement

To create an app that provides a way for clients to create their own custom plushies.

This is an app that offers a way for customers to customize and order their own stuffed character that is unique to their personality. From picking different facial features and expressions, to different colors and outfits, customers are able to make something that is personal. Characters that are made can be generated into emotes, where customers can send to any messaging platform.

Key Words

Cute, cuddly, soft, squishy, fun, colorful, innovative, for anyone, custom/personalized, diverse, app.

Problems to Solve

  • How can I make this easy for users to navigate?

  • How do I create a unique but fun user experience?

  • How can I further engage my audience, if this were to be on social media?

  • How do I catch the attention of viewers or potential customers?

  • How can I create unique concepts that are memorable?

  • How can I keep the user from feeling too stressed out on deciding on what they want?

  • How can I make the process easy or fast?

  • How can I make the application memorable (from a visual standpoint)?

  • What can the user expect?

  • Should I have a tutorial or on-boarding experience?

Primary Targets

Plushie lovers, kids, teens, and adults.

Why Does this Matter to Me?

This project is important to me because the world needs more outlets for people to create their own customized plushie, and because I feel like this project can appeal to a wide audience. There are many brands out there, but there aren't many that offer a unique user experience. I’d be challenging myself to create a brand that is memorable to an audience. It challenges me to get out of my comfort zone, while still creating something that I enjoy. It also challenges me to create more than just one thing. It’s really exciting to think of the possibilities of this project.

Moodboard

My moodboard consists of a lot of cute plushies, emotes, and different app designs for inspiration. I really wanted for my brand to be very "cute", which explains why everything on this moodboard is very cute and light-colored. I've also included emotes into my moodboard because I plan on having emotes as part of my app. There are also some packages on the board as well. Ideally, the plushies from my brand would be delivered in a nice package--kind of like a gift to oneself or to a friend.

Color Palettes

Originally, I went with a pastel color palette, but after feedback from my professor and classmates, I switched gears and went for a more gender-neutral color palette. I'm currently aiming for purples and yellows!

Character Concepts

I wanted to design a set of characters for my brand. These characters would have their own unique personalities, so that people who share similar personality traits could better connect with these characters. Also, these characters would be customizable by dressing them up or changing a couple of their physical features.

P.S. I apologize for the watermarks on some of the images, I'm a little protective of my work and the project still in progress.

Sketches

I've explored different types of app designs and logo designs. You'll see it below.

Vector Work

This is where I'm currently at with my project. I've started vectorizing my characters and adding color to them, and also started on some app icons and logos!

Thoughts and Wrap-Up

Personally speaking, I feel like I'm a little behind since I don't have an app design made. I'm at least happy that I have two of my characters vectorized and the app icons and logos started. I'm really excited on where I'm at right now though! My next goal for this project is to get some app designs made. I'll probably make another blog post about it.

See you on the next post!
