What'cha Up To?
I'm still trying to finish my huge mug of coffee as I write this. I thought I'd need a lot of it but I don't think I do anymore. Anyways! In today's post, I'll be choosing one of my classmates' projects and reviewing it!
If you're new to my blog, welcome! You can find my first blog post here if you'd like to read more about!
The Review
I've chosen my classmate, Irina, to review their project! If you're curious to read about her capstone project description, check out her blog post here.
Project Description: This immersive experience solves the issue of not seeing deep sea creatures, like the bioluminescent jellyfish, by bringing the deep-sea to the surface virtually. Users will approach a projection on a wall and interactive with it through gestures, providing a way for users to learn about the fascinating world of the deep sea.
Goal: To create an immersive and interactive experience to bring the deep sea to viewers through interactive projection technology.
Why did you choose their project?: I chose Irina's project because I felt like her project was very different than everyone else, since it involves making gestures as part of the interaction (not that everyone else's projects aren't good enough to be chosen--you all are making awesome stuff!). I'm personally a huge fan of sea life. I used to watch lot of Animal Planet growing up, and I also love aquariums. So from a personal standpoint, I thought her project was something that I would personally love to interact with if it were an exhibit. And I also think it would capture a lot of people's attention. It also reminds me a bit of this really cool projector kiosk I used to walk through when I was younger.
Why is it a good project for them?: Knowing Irina, she really likes to challenge herself and also trying new things. I think this project is a good choice for her because it really suits their goals as an interactive student and as a designer. I also think it's really cool that she wants to create an interactive projection type of experience. That's definitely something that would be really fun to interactive with. It's also very different from most capstone projects I've seen in the past. I also think it's a good project because I rarely see interactive experiences like this one, so I think it definitely brings something new to the table!
What suggestions do you have for them?:
- Play around with color! I feel like a way to help capture an audience's attention is effective use of color.
- Perhaps add calming background music to the interaction? Or even the sound of water moving when the user makes a certain gesture.
- I know it's a little late to suggest this but it's just an idea for the future: perhaps have an augmented reality app for this experience, or even VR experience! I can definitely see this become a game in the future if you decide to continue the project after capstone.
- Make sure not to stress yourself out with too many things to do at once!
- Maybe have clickable bubbles so users can read about the bioluminescent creatures?
That's it, folks!
